On a dark, damp night towards the end of January, 40 plus members of the club enjoyed a night of fun, facts and friendly rivalry as 7 teams battled it out to be crowned Compton Quiz Champions.
We kicked the evening off with a Compton curry (the succulent beef sourced from our barman Logan’s family farm) and drinks aplenty from the bar.
Mike Pomeroy was the quintessential Quiz Master, with table rounds, music rounds and quickfire question rounds all part of the competition. Being a Flying Club we all chose the Aviation round, when given the choice, and we’re very happy to report that the teams didn’t let the side down, with most gaining full marks on that particular round.
The winning team ‘Old Nick’ (Nick, Bob, Raymond, Simon, Sheila & Martin) won by a whisker and were duly awarded personal certificates and ‘crystal’ balls to bounce in celebration. It was a very close-run thing, with all 7 teams separated by only a smattering of points. And when it came to the results, 2 teams were almost disqualified for choosing the same team name ‘The Infamous Five’ – that famous pilot sense of humour kicking in again!
It was a really memorable evening of great humour and a healthy dose of heckling with a lovely supper and everyone left with a sense of having exercised their little grey cells in a very enjoyable way.
We look forward to the next one and trying to defeat the current champs.
